After Key Change Day, rates increase to £20 for renewal (key must be returned) and £25 for new members or renewal with no key.

Cheques should be made payable to ‘Bourne Green Tennis Club’

The location for Key Change Day will be dependent on weather and Covid regulations so please check our Latest News closer to the date.

Courts Re-opening – Members’ Update

Quote Posted on Updated on

Following the changes to the Covid-19 lockdown rules, from Monday 29th March the courts will be open for singles and doubles play.

It remains essential to follow the guidelines set out by the government, LTA and Club rules.

The waiting rule will still apply, “If both courts are in use when you arrive, the players who have been there longest must finish their set or finish play within 30 minutes and give way. Likewise, you must give way after 30 minutes if someone is waiting”.

If you are waiting for a court to become free, please wait outside the courts.

Please take care when opening and closing the gate, including using hand sanitiser to prevent any contamination. The gate should be locked after use. Be mindful of conatct with benches, bins, nets and net winders. Use your own tennis equipment where possible and bring only minimal belongings onto court.

The full information provided by the LTA can be found by clicking on this link https://www.lta.org.uk/globalassets/news/2020/local-restrictions-grid—tennis-activity-by-tier.pdf?category=Playing_Tennis_COVID19_Guidance

Key Change Day

This is provisionally set for Sunday 23rd May. Full details will be sent out closer to the day as certain Covid restrictions will apply.

Coaching

At least one court will always be available at all times for members to turn up and play. Coaching sessions – on just one court – will be run by Colin Essex and Brian Greig at the following times:

Monday 9.30 – 10.30am Adult Improvers – (Colin Essex)

10.30 – 12.00am Ladies Intermediates – (Colin Essex)

Tuesday 9.00 -10.00am Adult Coaching (Brian Greig)

3.00 – 5.00pm Children’s Lessons – (Colin Essex)

Wednesday 10.30-11.30am Adult Coaching (Brian Greig)

Coaching will be on one court only. The other court will be available at all times for members to turn up and play subject to the waiting rule. We expect the courts to be busy but please do come and use them. You may have to wait a maximum of 30 minutes but it’ll be worth it!

We will keep you informed of any further changes to the guidance but for now, enjoy the courts and stay safe.

Best regards,

Bourne Green Tennis Club Committee

Courts Closed as of 5th January 2021

Following the Prime Minister’s briefing last night:

“Outdoor sports venues, including tennis courts, golf courses and swimming pools, must close.”

The courts are now locked.

We look forward to re-opening them as soon as we are permitted to do so.

Tier 4 Restrictions

Quote Posted on

Unfortunately, as Waverley will be in Tier 4 from Boxing Day there will be new rules applying to tennis.

The Tier 4 restrictions allow outside courts to stay open for doubles from one household or support bubble only, singles with one person from another household and one-to-one coaching is permitted.

It is essential that all members follow this guidance and we would ask that all of your family are made aware of the new restrictions.

Remember to bring hand sanitiser and to use it if touching the lock, gate, tennis net winders, dustbins or seats.

The LTA have provided further information on their website which can be accessed via this link:

https://www.lta.org.uk/about-us/tennis-news/news-and-opinion/general-news/2020/march/coronavirus-covid-19—latest-advice/#england

When you have finished play, please do not let the nets right down as this has caused problems with the winding mechanism. Please also ensure the courts are locked after use.

Thank you for your co-operation during these constantly changing times.

Courts closed from Thursday 5th November

Following the government imposition of a further national lockdown for England, we are sorry to have to advise you that tennis courts must be closed.

The LTA had lobbied the government for tennis to be exempt from the shutdown rules but were unsuccessful.

The courts will therefore be locked from Thursday 5th November until Wednesday 2nd December, or until restrictions are lifted.

Update – Doubles and Group Play

Quote Posted on

The LTA have announced that “players from different households can now play doubles together as long as they stay two metres apart as far as possible, and small group coaching for up to six people (including the coach) can resume.”

All use of the courts must comply with the government and LTA guidance and social distancing, and BGTC rules and guidelines. We will have to limit access to the courts if members cannot follow them.

The waiting rule will still apply at all times. “If both courts are in use when you arrive at the courts, the players who have been there longest must finish their set or finish play within 30 minutes and give way. Likewise, you must give way within 30 minutes if someone is waiting.”

Please take great care when opening and closing the gate, including using hand sanitizers etc to prevent any contamination. The gate should be locked after use.

Be mindful of contact with benches, bin, nets and balls. Use your own equipment where possible, and bring only minimal belongings onto court.

You should leave a ball if moving to hit it brings you within 2 metres of another player, breaching social distancing guidelines.

“Players do not now need to use their own clearly marked tennis balls – however, if you choose to use shared balls then extra care must be taken to ensure you do not touch your face during play, and you should clean your hands before play and immediately after finishing (use alcohol gel if required)

Players should still avoid using their hands to pick up tennis balls…where possible – use your racquet/foot to return them”

Children under 10 must be supervised at all times, and older children must follow all guidelines and rules including the waiting rule.

Courts re-opening, Keys and Membership Update

Quote Posted on

“From Wednesday 13 May, the government will…allow outdoor sports facilities – such as tennis and basketball courts, golf courses and bowling greens – to open, but you should only use these alone, with members of your household, or with one other person from outside your household, while keeping two metres apart at all times.”
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/staying-alert-and-safe-social-distancing/staying-alert-and-safe-social-distancing

Following the update to government guidance, we will be re-opening the Bourne Green tennis courts from tomorrow to existing members.

All use of the courts must comply with the government guidance and social distancing.

We appreciate that the courts may be very busy so please follow our guidelines below. We will have to limit access to the courts if members cannot follow them.

Members may play with their own families, or singles with another person not from their own household.

Please take great care when opening and closing the gate, including using hand sanitizers etc to prevent any contamination. The gate should be locked after use.

Please use your racquet, not your hands, to redirect any stray balls, and do not collect other players’ balls. You may wish to mark or initial your own balls to prevent any possible confusion.

Children under 10 must be supervised at all times, and older children must follow all guidelines and rules including the waiting rule.

We expect the courts to be very busy so please be considerate in how much you or your children are using the courts. There are 214 other keyholders and their families to consider.

The waiting rule will still apply. “If both courts are in use when you arrive at the courts, the players who have been there longest must finish their set or finish play within 30 minutes and give way. Likewise, you must give way within 30 minutes if someone is waiting.”

Membership
The committee have decided to roll over this year’s current membership for the coming year. This means that your current (yellow) key for the courts will continue to work. We will not be charging a fee for 2020 membership but please do consider donating the equivalent to your fee to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice or the Farnham Coronavirus Support Fund, or another charity of your choice.

Keys
All keys have been sold for this year so there are currently none available. If you require a replacement key, or wish to return any keys in return for your £5 deposit, please contact Richard Stubberfield on 07920 474245. He is holding a waiting list for new members.

Please note that for now, the Bourne Stores cannot provide any keys, membership forms or refunds. They do not hold a spare key. All enquiries to bournegreentennis@btinternet.com or to Richard Stubberfield please.

We will keep you informed of any further changes to the guidance but for now, enjoy the courts and stay safe.

Best regards,

Bourne Green Tennis Club Committee

Courts Closed

We are closing the courts with immediate effect for the next three weeks. This is in line with the Prime Minister’s announcement that playgrounds and outdoor gyms must be closed. We can not ensure that all users of the courts will always comply with the government restrictions and we have a duty of care to all our members to keep them safe.

We will re-open the courts as soon as is permitted and safe to do so and will continue to monitor government and LTA guidelines.

Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.
