Update – Doubles and Group Play

Quote Posted on

The LTA have announced that “players from different households can now play doubles together as long as they stay two metres apart as far as possible, and small group coaching for up to six people (including the coach) can resume.”

All use of the courts must comply with the government and LTA guidance and social distancing, and BGTC rules and guidelines. We will have to limit access to the courts if members cannot follow them.

The waiting rule will still apply at all times. “If both courts are in use when you arrive at the courts, the players who have been there longest must finish their set or finish play within 30 minutes and give way. Likewise, you must give way within 30 minutes if someone is waiting.”

Please take great care when opening and closing the gate, including using hand sanitizers etc to prevent any contamination. The gate should be locked after use.

Be mindful of contact with benches, bin, nets and balls. Use your own equipment where possible, and bring only minimal belongings onto court.

You should leave a ball if moving to hit it brings you within 2 metres of another player, breaching social distancing guidelines.

“Players do not now need to use their own clearly marked tennis balls – however, if you choose to use shared balls then extra care must be taken to ensure you do not touch your face during play, and you should clean your hands before play and immediately after finishing (use alcohol gel if required)

Players should still avoid using their hands to pick up tennis balls…where possible – use your racquet/foot to return them”

https://www.lta.org.uk/about-us/tennis-news/news-and-opinion/general-news/2020/march/coronavirus-covid-19—latest-advice/

Children under 10 must be supervised at all times, and older children must follow all guidelines and rules including the waiting rule.

Please let us know of any problems with the courts via bournegreentennis@btinternet.com

Enjoy the courts and stay safe.

Best regards,

Courts re-opening, Keys and Membership Update

Quote Posted on

“From Wednesday 13 May, the government will…allow outdoor sports facilities – such as tennis and basketball courts, golf courses and bowling greens – to open, but you should only use these alone, with members of your household, or with one other person from outside your household, while keeping two metres apart at all times.”
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/staying-alert-and-safe-social-distancing/staying-alert-and-safe-social-distancing

Following the update to government guidance, we will be re-opening the Bourne Green tennis courts from tomorrow to existing members.

All use of the courts must comply with the government guidance and social distancing.

We appreciate that the courts may be very busy so please follow our guidelines below. We will have to limit access to the courts if members cannot follow them.

Members may play with their own families, or singles with another person not from their own household.

Please take great care when opening and closing the gate, including using hand sanitizers etc to prevent any contamination. The gate should be locked after use.

Please use your racquet, not your hands, to redirect any stray balls, and do not collect other players’ balls. You may wish to mark or initial your own balls to prevent any possible confusion.

Children under 10 must be supervised at all times, and older children must follow all guidelines and rules including the waiting rule.

We expect the courts to be very busy so please be considerate in how much you or your children are using the courts. There are 214 other keyholders and their families to consider.

The waiting rule will still apply. “If both courts are in use when you arrive at the courts, the players who have been there longest must finish their set or finish play within 30 minutes and give way. Likewise, you must give way within 30 minutes if someone is waiting.”

Membership
The committee have decided to roll over this year’s current membership for the coming year. This means that your current (yellow) key for the courts will continue to work. We will not be charging a fee for 2020 membership but please do consider donating the equivalent to your fee to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice or the Farnham Coronavirus Support Fund, or another charity of your choice.

Keys
All keys have been sold for this year so there are currently none available. If you require a replacement key, or wish to return any keys in return for your £5 deposit, please contact Richard Stubberfield on 07920 474245. He is holding a waiting list for new members.

Please note that for now, the Bourne Stores cannot provide any keys, membership forms or refunds. They do not hold a spare key. All enquiries to bournegreentennis@btinternet.com or to Richard Stubberfield please.

We will keep you informed of any further changes to the guidance but for now, enjoy the courts and stay safe.

Best regards,

Bourne Green Tennis Club Committee

Courts Closed

Quote Posted on

We are closing the courts with immediate effect for the next three weeks. This is in line with the Prime Minister’s announcement that playgrounds and outdoor gyms must be closed. We can not ensure that all users of the courts will always comply with the government restrictions and we have a duty of care to all our members to keep them safe.

We will re-open the courts as soon as is permitted and safe to do so and will continue to monitor government and LTA guidelines.

Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.

Coaching on Bourne Green

Quote Posted on

As the tennis end of year finals approach, is it time to sign up for some tennis doubles coaching?
We have two coaches who run coaching sessions on the Bourne Green courts: Colin Essex and Brian Greig.

Colin will be running a tennis doubles workshop for adult members on Sunday 5th November 11am-12.30pm. The workshop will be focussing on tactical doubles techniques which Colin has been perfecting on a recent coaching course. Cost is £10 and a minimum of 8 players are needed to sign up for it to go ahead. Please note that the courts will not be available to other players at this time.

Colin also runs sessions as follows:
Monday 9.30-10.30 adult improvers
10.30-11.30 beginners
11.30-1.00 adult doubles drills and match play
Friday 10.30-12 adult beginners
All sessions are £10. Individual lessons £30 for up to 3 players. Contact Colin colinaessex@gmail.com or 07812 819145

Brian runs the following sessions:
Tuesday 9-10 adult coaching (currently full)
Wednesday 10.30-11.30 adult coaching
Brian’s sessions are £5 per session. Contact Brian at briangreig59@gmail.com or 01252 793762.
Please note that all those receiving coaching should be members of the club (keys available from the Bourne Stores for £20 for a family membership for the year plus £5 key deposit). The “turn up and wait” rule does not apply for the coaching sessions above – if a spare court is not available, players will need to wait until the end of the coaching session. This applies at these times only.
