Courts re-opening, Keys and Membership Update

“From Wednesday 13 May, the government will…allow outdoor sports facilities – such as tennis and basketball courts, golf courses and bowling greens – to open, but you should only use these alone, with members of your household, or with one other person from outside your household, while keeping two metres apart at all times.”

Following the update to government guidance, we will be re-opening the Bourne Green tennis courts from tomorrow to existing members.

All use of the courts must comply with the government guidance and social distancing.

We appreciate that the courts may be very busy so please follow our guidelines below. We will have to limit access to the courts if members cannot follow them.

Members may play with their own families, or singles with another person not from their own household.

Please take great care when opening and closing the gate, including using hand sanitizers etc to prevent any contamination. The gate should be locked after use.

Please use your racquet, not your hands, to redirect any stray balls, and do not collect other players’ balls. You may wish to mark or initial your own balls to prevent any possible confusion.

Children under 10 must be supervised at all times, and older children must follow all guidelines and rules including the waiting rule.

We expect the courts to be very busy so please be considerate in how much you or your children are using the courts. There are 214 other keyholders and their families to consider.

The waiting rule will still apply. “If both courts are in use when you arrive at the courts, the players who have been there longest must finish their set or finish play within 30 minutes and give way. Likewise, you must give way within 30 minutes if someone is waiting.”

Membership
The committee have decided to roll over this year’s current membership for the coming year. This means that your current (yellow) key for the courts will continue to work. We will not be charging a fee for 2020 membership but please do consider donating the equivalent to your fee to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice or the Farnham Coronavirus Support Fund, or another charity of your choice.

Keys
All keys have been sold for this year so there are currently none available. If you require a replacement key, or wish to return any keys in return for your £5 deposit, please contact Richard Stubberfield on 07920 474245. He is holding a waiting list for new members.

Please note that for now, the Bourne Stores cannot provide any keys, membership forms or refunds. They do not hold a spare key. All enquiries to bournegreentennis@btinternet.com or to Richard Stubberfield please.

We will keep you informed of any further changes to the guidance but for now, enjoy the courts and stay safe.

Best regards,

Bourne Green Tennis Club Committee
